Add Global Flavors to Summer Favorites
While ketchup, mustard and mayonnaise will always have a spot on the Fourth of July table, consider mixing things up this year by incorporating an array of global flavors. It’s a perfect (and delicious) way to celebrate the diverse tapestry that is America.
1. Baba Ghanouj
Baba ghanouj is a Middle Eastern dip made from eggplant, and it’s bursting with smoky flavor. Keep things simple by serving it with pita chips.
2. Chimichurri
Packed with finely chopped fresh herbs and a splash of vinegar or lemon juice, chimichurri makes a bright dip for cocktail shrimp.
3. Tzatziki
Introduce a taste of the Greek Isles and include creamy tzatziki on your veggie tray. Its cucumber and herbs add a refreshing touch to any crudités spread.
4. Tajín
Tajín is a Mexican spice blend made from dried chili peppers, dehydrated lime and sea salt. Try it sprinkled over watermelon slices.
5. Pesto
Basil-forward pesto plays well with just about every item on a Fourth of July spread, from hot dogs and hamburgers to chips and charcuterie.
6. Kimchi
This fermented favorite is an excellent hot dog topping, but its spicy tang also complements grilled chicken.
