How to Grill Fish on a Wood Plank
Want to pull off smoky, juicy fish fillets? Wood plank grilling can get you there! This preparation method is simpler than you might think, and it’s a fun way to experiment with different flavors. Get ready to get hooked on this easy, elegant cooking method.
1. Soak the wood plank:
You’ll want to check the package instructions, but most planks should be soaked in water for 1–2 hours before grilling. Use a heavier object, like a sturdy water glass, to keep the plank submerged.
2. Prep the fish:
While the plank is soaking, pat the fish dry with paper towels, then add seasonings or marinade. Refrigerate until the plank is ready. While salmon is a popular choice for plank grilling, halibut, trout and mahi-mahi are other great options.
3. Fire up the grill:
Preheat the grill to medium heat or 350°F.
4. Prep the plank:
Coat the plank with oil or nonstick cooking spray.
5. Cook:
Set the fish on plank, skin-side down. Grill over indirect heat with the lid closed for 10–15 minutes or until fish reaches a safe internal temperature of 145°F.
6. Serve and enjoy!
For a stunning presentation, bring the plank right to the table.
