Did you know that some common foods can do double duty as beauty treatments? Everyday pantry staples such as coconut oil and apple cider vinegar, along with coffee grounds and tea bags from your morning brew, have nourishing properties that can rejuvenate skin and hair.

Coffee Grounds

Not only can coffee brew up a strong cup of joe, it also works as a skin exfoliant. Since the grounds may be a bit too abrasive for soft skin on your face, it’s best to use them mixed with coconut oil to remove dead skin cells.

Skin Tip: Mix ¼ cup coffee grounds with ¼ cup coconut oil and use as a body exfoliant.

Coconut Oil

This versatile ingredient has a combination of omega-3 fatty acids and lauric acid, and it can help with split ends and calm frizz. Plus, coconut oil provides moisture to dry scalps.

Hair Tip: Apply 1–2 tablespoons oil to hair, leaving on about 2 hours before washing out.

Tea Bags

If your eyes need a bit of a pick-me-up, try using tea bags. To reduce puffiness or inflammation, green and black teas are best, while chamomile helps soothe allergies and irritation.

Eye Tip: Steep tea bags and chill in refrigerator 5–10 minutes before placing on eyes. Do not leave on eyes more than 30 minutes.

Apple Cider Vinegar

This vinegar is a natural astringent that contains antimicrobial properties and can be effective as a toner, especially for acne-prone skin.

Toner Tip: Dilute 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar with ¼ cup water before applying to face.
