Breakfast in Bed Is Just the Beginning
Treat mom to a lavish morning wake-up call of crepes and mimosas before surprising her with an entire agenda of special treatment.
Step One: Crepes
- 1 cup flour
- 1 cup milk
- ½ cup water
- 2 eggs
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- Pinch of salt
Mix flour, milk and water. Beat in eggs, butter and salt until mixture is smooth. Slowly pour into pan on medium heat and cook each side 1-2 minutes.
Once you have a basic crepe recipe you can count on, decide if you want savory or sweet crepes. For savory, try sauteed vegetables and mom’s favorite cheese or meats topped with fresh herbs. For sweet, choose from fresh fruit, jam, honey, different syrups, powdered sugar and whipped cream.
Step Two: Mimosa + Champagne + Juice
It’s easy to play with a cocktail recipe when the foundation is so simple. You know your mom-- adjust the champagne to juice ratios accordingly. What is her favorite flavor? Do you want to add a sugar rim, frozen berry ice cubes, a dollop of vanilla ice cream or a rose petal on top? Mimosa possibilities are endless.
Serve breakfast on a pretty tray with a tiny flower arrangement and card with the day’s itinerary.
Step Three: Spa Day
The pampering continues after a pleasant breakfast. To spoil mom with an at-home spa experience, gather supplies the day prior to create a manicure and pedicure station. A small plastic tub (for feet) and a bowl (for hands) can be filled with warm water, epsom salt and your favorite essential oils. Roll up towels instead of folding for that fancy hotel look. Create a playlist of her favorite songs. Whip up a soothing face mask of honey, coconut oil and loose-leaf green tea.
If your mom would prefer a day out on the town, make appointments for a massage, mani-pedi or tea time. Take a stroll through the conservatory or arboretum, or perhaps check out a movie, play or concert. You could take her shopping for a new outfit, or plants for the patio. Whatever combination of fun activities two of you end up doing, she will appreciate all the thought and planning that went into her special day.
